Shun Jian realized that unwittingly, like most people he knew, he had allowed himself to be caught up in the rat race. He had become a money making machine… for someone else! Formal education had prepared him to be an employee, trading time for money.

A few months ago after knowing Eckhart Tolle for a while and studying his books, I woke up and I suddenly got it. I understood how thought was an illusory thing and how thought is responsible for if not all, most of the suffering we experience.

And then, I suddenly felt like I was looking at these thoughts from another perspective and I wondered – Who is it that is aware that I’m thinking?

Suddenly I was thrown into this expansive, amazing feeling of freedom. Freedom from myself. Freedom from my problems. I saw that I was bigger than what I do. Bigger than my body. I was everything and everyone. I was no longer a fragment of the Universe, I was the Universe.

Ever since that day, I’ve been trying to get back there

It’s like riding a wave. Sometimes I’m on. Sometimes I’m off. But at least I know where I want to go and I want to take as many people with me as I possibly can because the feeling is amazing!

It’s our intention. Intention is everything. Nothing happens on this planet without it. Not one single thing has ever been accomplished without  intention.

So, I started thinking about my life and this conference and what we’re about.

I looked back and I thought – “Well, I was two people my whole life. I was in the living room entertaining people… being a monkey… doing my thing for the company and trying to relieve my mother who was suffering. She had rheumatoid arthritis and everything under the sun was nagging at her to be free. I wanted her to realise that her life was worth something because she’d given birth to someone who’s worth something.

Then, I would go into my room and sit with a legal pad. I was a little kid and I would be there and I would try and figure out what it meant and what it was all about.

Why are we here?

What is this?

One day I read something from Buddha that said – “All spirituality is about relieving suffering.”

I suddenly realised that is what I’m doing in the other room. I’m aligned!  My purpose is aligned with this so I felt incredibly lucky.

I lose sight of this all the time. I get caught up in different concerns and ego concerns but I’m so lucky to be part of this community and to do something that is of value.

My Thoughts

WOW!! How powerful is that? When I first discovered this video, it took me a few days to really get his words. I watched it over and over again. Obviously it made an impression on me so I had to share it with you.

Our thoughts are the reason everything happens whether they are good or bad. You are the conductor of your own train on the tracks of life and you are strong enough to go places you want to go. Don’t let a little hill stop you – choose the reality you wish to create, not the one you’re afraid might occur.

Eckhart Tolle’s A New Earth is the book that Jim Carrey’s speech is based on. There are mixed reviews about the book. The only opinion that counts though is yours. I’d love to hear your ideas and how Jim Carrey’s thoughts and intentions sit with you.

Today we celebrate Australia Day the 26th January 2010. On this day 222 years ago was the arrival of the First Fleet into Sydney Cove and is officially declared a public holiday in every State and Territory around Australia since 1994.

Although Captain James Cook explored and claimed Botany Bay in 1770, it wasn’t until 1788 when the First Fleet arrived under the command of Captain Arthur Phillip that Australia was established as a penal colony.

Australia Day has been previously known as Foundation Day and has also been referred to as Invasion Day by some groups within Australian society. The controversy stems from the belief that it was the destruction of Indigenous culture by the British.

Whatever your beliefs are of this day, my wish is for you to enjoy it and celebrate as you see fit.

How to Celebrate Australia Day

As far as I can tell there are no hard and fast rules on how to celebrate this day. The main thing is to enjoy yourself whatever you do. Celebrating with friends and family is always cool and as we know, the more the merrier extends to this holiday. Participate in any way you can and feel proud to be an Australian.

Activities can include :-

Aussie Thongs

1. A day at the beach with the cricket bat or or volley ball.
2. Lots of beer
3. Attending official events and/or concerts
4. Holding a BBQ at home
5. Visit museums and learn about our history
6. Dress up in Aussie colours
7. Organise a competition for the best outfit
8. Watch the fireworks
9. Fly the Australian Flag at home or on your car
10. Make Lamingtons or Pavlova

Most of all, enjoy the day.

The Aussie BBQ

We enjoyed some Australia Day Burgers on the BBQ for dinner. I used the following recipe and they were delicious.

Ingredients:

• 500 g lean Beef mince
• 1/2 Onion — finely chopped
• 1 TSP chopped fresh garlic
• 1/4 cup chopped fresh Parsley
• 1/2 cup HEINZ tomato ketchup
• 1 egg — lightly beaten
• 1 cup fresh breadcrumbs
• salt and freshly ground black pepper — to taste
• 6 Hamburger buns—split and toasted ( 6 to 8 )
• your favourite burger ingredients—choose from:
• tomato — beetroot,
• pineapple, avocado, lettuce, Cheese,
• Bacon, onions
• and/or egg

My Personal Development journey began 6 years ago and one of the many teachers I was introduced to was the legendary Jim Rohn.  Late last night I learned of his passing and although it saddened me to hear this news, I was quickly reminded of the precious lessons I have learned from this man.

My shelves are filled with many of his audios and books on his recommended reading list. One in particular being the classic from author George S. Clason – The Richest Man in Babylon. The moment I heard about this book I quickly took action and went to purchase it.

It could almost be a text book for senior school to teach our children about money and finance and prepare them for the way they view their personal finances. The Richest Man in Babylon is a definite must have to empower yourself with the choices you make for your financial future.

Personal Development to Greatness

Jim Rohn and his teaching had a great impact on my life. I found a series of 3 videos I’d like to share with you so that you too may benefit from what Mr. Rohn taught me in your own way.

Part 1 – Personal Development and Money
We get paid for bringing value to the market place. It takes time to bring value to the market place however, we do not get paid for time. Mistakenly, a man says he is making $20 for an hour. Jim says that’s not true. If that was true, you could stay home and have them send you money, right? No, that is not true, we get paid for value and not for time. Jim asks the question: Is it possible to become twice as valuable and make twice the money in the same time?

Life Lessons by Jim Rohn

1. The difference between success and failure is the degree of commitment we give to seek out resources and apply ourselves.
2. Learn to be happy for happiness is activity with purpose and love in practice.
3. Discipline is the most critical ingredient for success. It is the master key that unlocks the door to wealth and happiness. It is the glue that binds inspiration to achievement and the bridge between thought and accomplishment.
4. The difference between discipline and regret is that discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons.
5. You cannot change your destination overnight but you can change direction.
6. Live well. Do not just learn how to earn, learn how to live. The good life is not an amount, it is an attitude, an act, an idea, a discovery.

So today I took the plunge and had a spring cleaning day.

As a blogger, I’m always on the lookout at how technology and this medium is improving. Running a web business from home as an Internet Marketer, I have found there are too many options of how to blog, what to blog about as well as affiliate marketing, which products to sell and the list goes on.

The resources we have at our fingertips are infinite. The trick is to find the right thing for you. I bet you hear it over and over again how people get drawn into handing over lots of cash to learn how to make money online. You only have to search for online business or make money online and Google will return millions of search items.

The trick is to find what you are passionate about. Find the thing you love to do and start blogging about that.

Not to long ago I wrote how to follow your passion and the money will follow. Your own web business could be just around the corner.

Law of Attraction has always been part of my daily life. It wasn’t until the movie The Secret that I did become aware of what it actually meant.

Will Smith does a great little interview in this video where he talks about the need to Just Decide on what it is you want and what you want to be and the Universe will bend and move for you to be and do that. Do you believe that is true?

The Alchemist

The book The Alchemist which Will Smith talks about by author Paulo Coehlo, was first published around 10 years ago and one I have yet to read.

If you have read the book, I would be interested in your comments. The mind is a very powerful machine and the more we understand how it works, the more we want to know.

Chicken Soup for the Soul

Chicken Soup for the Soul, the book series that originated the many inspirational and uplifting stories that infiltrated throughout the late 1990s and have continued to this day, continues to publish books relating to the times.

The most recent addition, Chicken Soup for the Soul: Tough Times, Tough People contains 101 stories about overcoming the economic crisis and other challenges.  This is a perfect addition to modern society with the economy frightening so many people, and the ability of this series to mold itself to any obstacle is a telling sign of its staying power within society.

The newest book mentions the many disasters which have occurred during the past years, such as hurricanes, fires, health difficulties, and financial difficulties; the many stories within the book serve to aid others in similar situations reach a peaceful peak of life.

So many peoples’ lives have been ravaged by the recent events in this century and Chicken Soup for the Soul truly reaches out and provides comfort to many, allowing them to realize that they are not alone in their troubles.

This has been one of the core values since the onset of the series in 1993, in which the original creators Mark Victor Hansen and Jack Canfield reached out to ordinary people to contribute stories of their extraordinary abilities to move beyond difficult moments in their lives.

The incorporation of the series into the pop culture world additionally increased its popularity amongst readers and allowed the series to flourish, producing over 100 copies over the tenure of its existence.  The retail sales now are in the billions and the company has merged with other inspirational magazines and publications.

Additional Chicken Soup Titles

Other new titles that have recently been published include Chicken Soup for the Soul: Campus Chronicles, Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Golf Book (in which they partnered with Golf Digest), and Chicken Soup for the Soul: Power Moms.

Many of these new books are important for an ever evolving society, especially the book about Power Moms, which indicates the new choice among many women to stay at home with their kids or work from home.

For so many years, women did not want to simply become a stay at home mom because of the connotations which were associated with this and the need to become independent.  However, with the new ability to work from home now, more and more women are considering this to be a feasible option which Chicken Soup taps into amidst the increasing suburban stay at home moms that are infiltrating society.

This book assists in proving that many of these women are multi-tasking and high-performing, able to actively participate in society, work from home, and raise a family.  These women should be applauded rather than shunned because of their choice to place family above work.

All the recent publications relate back to modern society and promote an inspirational outlook on nearly every realm of life, from divorce, to coping with the “empty nest syndrome”.  It seems as though the Chicken Soup books will never tire audiences with their ability to inspire and promote ideals of love and acceptance.

Personal Development Journey

A few years back when I began my Personal Development Journey one of the main reasons I did so was because I was frustrated that life wasn’t turning out how I thought it should. Mainly in the area of wealth.

I went to school, got a good job, found my partner in life, bought a house and we had two kids! Sound familiar?

So why did we always seem to struggle with our finances? Mostly, the reason I found which attributed to this was because in school, we are not taught to create wealth, rather, we are taught to finish school, work hard at a good job and then retire.

Today, schools do not offer to teach us about investing in property or the stock market or even building a profitable business. In fact, most of the CEO’s of large corporations today were high-school drop-outs.

One who comes to mind is Larry Ellison, the CEO of The Oracle. Larry, who at that time was the second richest man on the planet, was invited to give a speech to the graduating class of 2000 at Yale University. Basically, he told them that Diplomas are for Losers. A transcript of his speech is a must read.

Hopefully, the archaic 19th Century school system will change. In the meantime, using wealth strategies to create a passive financial income, from people who already have a PhD in results is easier than you think.

Attracting Wealth

How I went about attracting wealth was to hunt around and find some books. There was no shortage of information in the personal development and wealth creation section at the bookshops and I found that it was difficult to choose one teacher. Over time, I came to realise that all the proclaimed Self Help teachers were teaching the same concept from their own experiences. There was only one message and that is:

You create your reality; what you think about comes about.

This relates to every aspect of your life including:

1. Health,
2. Wealth,
3. Relationships,
4. Family Lifestyle,
5. Where you live,
6. Where you work, and
7. Your circle of friends.

One thing that I found very, very useful to help with my thoughts was a routine which I learned while attending some Master Mind meetings. A group of like minded people having regular meetings to support one another with any challenges we had in reaching our desired goals. It went something like this.

Daily Operating Procedures

First thing every morning I follow this routine set out below and read my “I” affirmations.

Prioritise my to-do list – based on my goals.

• I commit to doing my A’s (most important) regardless of the time it takes to do them. Huge tasks get allocated no more than an hour.
• I touch tasks one time and then complete them.I don’t let distractions take me off what I am doing.
• I make all decisions swiftly, either yes, no or more information required.
• I am the cause of my day and whatever enters my mind is by my own doing.
• I choose to put into my mind only those things which will further me to reaching my goals.
• I do not get entangled in small games and worthless arguments that rob me of money, time or attention.

Next, read my goals, maybe while walking around, rebounding etc.

Right before reading my goals, I will concentrate my thoughts for at least 5 minutes on making $10,000 a month and to achieve it by following this plan:

1.       Educating myself daily by:

• Cultivating my goals daily
• Daily Self-Improvement

2.       Promoting my business daily by:

• Networking
• Offering my services to help others

3.       Being effective by:

• Connecting with people
• Setting appointments
• Daily training
• Promoting

Use these efforts to produce the following results.

1. All expenditure is to get me to $10,000 a month.
2. No toys or hobbies.
3. Buy only assets that build the business and assets that produce a passive income.
4. I will attract to myself the business partners that will make my goals a reality because of my willingness to contribute to others.

This is only the beginning. Once this goal is reached, then it’s doubled and so on by duplicating what you have already done and the results achieved.
