Jim Carrey on Thoughts and Intentions

Jim Carrey on thoughts and intentions

Funny man Jim Carrey is probably best known for his comedic roles in the movies although I found some recent footage where he talks about thoughts and intentions in regards to Eckhart Tolle’s teachings.

Jim Carrey as you have never seen him before. His honest, candid, humble self discussing openly his life-long pursuit for meaning and purpose, his encounters with Awakening and his optimistic view of the emerging “New Earth.” source: eckhart tolle tv

Below this video is a transcription of his speech. These words are powerful to read as well as listen to and recommend that you read and watch this as many times as you need to get the message he is relaying.

Recorded at the 2009 Inaugural GATE Event (Global Alliance for Transformational Entertainment) Video was Shot and Produced by Eckhart Tolle TV.

Thoughts and Intentions by Jim Carrey

The transcript…

A few months ago after knowing Eckhart Tolle for a while and studying his books, I woke up and I suddenly got it. I understood how thought was an illusory thing and how thought is responsible for if not all, most of the suffering we experience.

And then, I suddenly felt like I was looking at these thoughts from another perspective and I wondered – Who is it that is aware that I’m thinking?

Suddenly I was thrown into this expansive, amazing feeling of freedom. Freedom from myself. Freedom from my problems. I saw that I was bigger than what I do. Bigger than my body. I was everything and everyone. I was no longer a fragment of the Universe, I was the Universe.

Ever since that day, I’ve been trying to get back there 🙂

It’s like riding a wave. Sometimes I’m on. Sometimes I’m off. But at least I know where I want to go and I want to take as many people with me as I possibly can because the feeling is amazing!

It’s our intention. Intention is everything. Nothing happens on this planet without it. Not one single thing has ever been accomplished without  intention.

So, I started thinking about my life and this conference and what we’re about.

I looked back and I thought – “Well, I was two people my whole life. I was in the living room entertaining people… being a monkey… doing my thing for the company and trying to relieve my mother who was suffering. She had rheumatoid arthritis and everything under the sun was nagging at her to be free. I wanted her to realise that her life was worth something because she’d given birth to someone who’s worth something.

Then, I would go into my room and sit with a legal pad. I was a little kid and I would be there and I would try and figure out what it meant and what it was all about.

Why are we here?

What is this?

One day I read something from Buddha that said – “All spirituality is about relieving suffering.”

I suddenly realised that is what I’m doing in the other room. I’m aligned!  My purpose is aligned with this so I felt incredibly lucky.

I lose sight of this all the time. I get caught up in different concerns and ego concerns but I’m so lucky to be part of this community and to do something that is of value.

My Thoughts

WOW!! How powerful is that? When I first discovered this video, it took me a few days to really get his words. I watched it over and over again. Obviously it made an impression on me so I had to share it with you.

Our thoughts are the reason everything happens whether they are good or bad. You are the conductor of your own train on the tracks of life and you are strong enough to go places you want to go. Don’t let a little hill stop you – choose the reality you wish to create, not the one you’re afraid might occur.

Eckhart Tolle’s A New Earth is the book that Jim Carrey’s speech is based on. There are mixed reviews about the book. The only opinion that counts though is yours. I’d love to hear your ideas and how Jim Carrey’s thoughts and intentions sit with you.

A New Earth

  2. Wow !! thanks for this video, I am a great fan and believer in the power of our thoughts & what we can achieve , once we discover this power that everyone has.

Yet, so many individuals will go to their graves, having never discovered their true potential. This is so SAD & one of my goals is to teach as many as I can, the true Power of Thought & what one can achieve with it !!!

    • Hello my Fisherman friend. Thoughts are very powerful and I think it’s wonderful that you are willing to teach others the true power of thought… Bless

  3. Wow, I had no idea that Jim Carrey is this kind of person in his off-screen life. I had never really liked his comedy roles so I didn’t really expect him to be all that spiritual in real life. Very interesting thoughts, though.

  4. I have always been a fan of his. Even before he made it big, he actually performed locally and after each show, he would always take the time to talk to anybody…no matter how long after the show it took.

    He is very grounded!

  5. Wow, how cool to see Jim Carrey talk about the impact Eckhart Tolle’s teachings had on him. I listened to Tolle a few years ago from a few cd’s a friend gave me, very interesting ideas. You can see that Jim is being almost child-like in his new discovery of “being” in this video. Thanks for posting.

  6. Good article Ange. I was actually reading an article by a casting agent the other day. She said that Jim Carey was a kind man who really wanted to make a difference in the World. I wouldn’t have thought that just by reviewing his films. Your article further backed up the casting agents claims and has really changed my perception of Jim. Thanks.

  7. Hi David and welcome to Buzzing with Ange 🙂
Before I saw this video I too had no idea about the kind of man Jim Carrey was besides a comedian. It really is an eye opener and well worth watching the video more than once.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

  8. So interesting that while Jim didn’t consciously know why he was acting like a monkey, it was his alignment with LOVE that was driving him.

It is great that he has that consciousness now, and has the intention to be in alignment now.

Consciousness of our purpose is what it is all about!! (It’s what I’m trying to help people with too….)
