Beaming the Beatles Across the Universe

Here’s a quickie… Chilly from On the Bricks has asked me to help with the launch of Across The Universe by the Beatles as NASA is going to to the star Polaris, 431 light years away (that’s 431 years travel at the speed of light before our all-time favorite Beatles song reaches the 2.5 quadrillion miles away star). This is being done at 0:00 GMT February 4th, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the song, the 45th anniversary of NASA’s Deep Space Network, an international network of antennas that supports missions to explore the universe, and the 50th anniversary of NASA.
NASA has invited people around the world to play Across the Universe on their audio systems at the same time NASA beams its mp3 version into outer space. The idea was hatched by Beatles’ historian Martin Lewis, who encourages all Beatles fans to play the track as it is being beamed to the distant star. Additionally, this date will be known as Across the Universe Day. The event marks the first time a radio song has been beamed into deep space.
I did play it at the correct time… just didn’t get to publish it on time! So I will leave this up for you to enjoy… Beatles fans everywhere… rejoice!

Nice idea, maybe…..but I seem to remember hearing on the History Channel (I think it was David Brin ) that the waves dissipate after 1 or 2 light years out.

@David … 1 or 2 light years out is a very short distance… I hope he was misinformed… when you think about it… what an achievment it would be to get the song 431 light years out!! Thanks for stopping by.
The 1 or 2 light years out was for radio & T V signals in general - hopefully doesn’t apply to NASA using a different technology to beam to a star 431 years away.
Have to say, though, that I find it reassuring to think that the signals carrying the Game Show Network & the Crystal Cathedral will peter out after a year or so……….if not, I don’t blame anyone out there for not wanting to stop by…..
Hi! I now hear that some parties are criticizing this deep space broadcast. They fear it will bring war mongering aliens to earth! Well, if that happens I’m sure they’ll be a bigger hit than the Beatles.
